Welcome to the team, Matthew Allen!

Matthew Allen

We are pleased to welcome to the Sustineo team our new Principal Consultant (Research), Dr Matthew Allen.

Matt brings a wealth of experience to the growing Sustineo team. Notably, he has over 20 years’ experience as a social scientist specialising in the Pacific Islands region, especially Melanesia (Papua New Guinea, Bougainville, Solomon Islands, Vanuatu and Fiji). Reflecting on what skills and experience he will bring to Sustineo, Matt noted:

“I have been fortunate to have had a very diverse career to date, including opportunities to spend long periods of time ‘in-country’ as an academic researcher and development practitioner. Through these diverse experiences I have developed broad expertise in qualitative and mixed methods research, and sectoral expertise in land and natural resource governance, rural development, food security and resilience, and peace and conflict.”

Along with a clear alignment between Sustineo’s portfolio of work and Matt’s past experience, Sustineo’s company ethos and culture has also been a motivating factor for Matt when applying to work with Sustineo. When asked what attracted Matt to Sustineo, he reflected:

In short, Sustineo’s people, its unique market position and its core values. I have known quite a few people who have worked at Sustineo over the years, all of whom I have a great deal of respect for.”

In his short time with Sustineo, Matt has already been a great addition to the team. Matt has contributed to a range of project deliverables and is already helping to shape the future direction of Sustineo’s work in the Pacific.

We are excited for what is to come next, as Sustineo continues to evolve and deliver on meaningful project work. So too is Matt, who reflected on what he would like to achieve at Sustineo:

“In the immediate term I hope to be able to add value to our existing portfolio of work in the Pacific. A core element of Sustineo’s approach is to achieve excellence across all of our professional activities, and I hope to contribute to the excellence of our work in the Pacific. In the longer term, I hope to assist in growing our Pacific work: to work with new clients and partners, and to deepen and widen our sectoral engagement. Perhaps most importantly, I look forward to working with the Sustineo team to find new and innovative ways to strength our unique partnerships approach to working in the Pacific.”
