Daniela’s work and professional experience sits within the intersections of food systems, environmental change, and livelihoods development. She has a multidisciplinary academic background, having completed a BSc in agricultural engineering (EARTH University, Costa Rica), an MSc in environment majoring in climate change adaptation (Griffith University, Australia), and a PhD in Human Geography (University of the Sunshine Coast, Australia).
She has over 14 years of experience working in international agricultural and environmental projects. Throughout her career, she has been able to develop hands-on experience working with farmers’ organisations, community groups, government, academia and the private sector. She has worked developing and implementing research and development projects focusing on sustainable agriculture, agroforestry, payment for environmental services, food and nutrition security, waste management, climate change adaptation, greenhouse gas emissions management, and education for sustainability. Her work has taken her to over 20 countries in Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean, and the Pacific, including living in remote Indigenous communities in Costa Rica, Chile, and Fiji.
Daniela has worked extensively supporting the integration of climate change adaptation planning across multiple levels of governance and sectors, and bridging the gaps between research, policy, and planning. She is fluent in English and Spanish and excels in managing complex development projects with multiple partners and funding sources. Her technical skills include project management, quantitative and qualitative data analysis, monitoring evaluation and learning, facilitation, and training.
