Sustineo's QMS: Continual improvement behind the scenes

Since 2010, Sustineo has had the privilege of working across an amazing diversity of important and meaningful projects within Australia and across the Asia-Pacific region. Most of our posting on our website and social media has been about the highlights of this work – reports of our team being in the field; examples of us working with our wonderful in-country partners, as well as our team engaging with stakeholders and communities; and the launching or publications of various ‘end products’ that are the culmination of significant work undertaken by our team. We often share the visual and accessible examples of how our work contributes to our organisational mission of supporting positive social, economic and environmental change in the places we work.

However, it goes without saying that a lot of work goes on behind the scenes to make this happen. Behind our exciting project work are management systems and processes – embedded in our internal Quality Management System – that enables us to succeed whether that be in the field or in the office. The development and progressive improvement of these systems underpins Sustineo’s capacity to provide consistent services that meet our client’s needs, as well as to continually improve our service delivery.

While we are a small organisation, we have put a lot of work into improving our internal systems since our inception. In 2018, Sustineo was accredited with achieving certification against the ISO9001:2015 Quality Management System Requirements Standard. This certification was an important step for us in demonstrating our maturation as a professional services consulting firm.

Two years on, we are proud to report we have successfully completed, and fully complied with, our second surveillance of the implementation of Sustineo’s Quality Management System against the Standard. In short, we are well on track for re-certification in 2021. This is a great result and demonstrates our internal commitment to reflecting, listening, learning and improving as an organisation, with a firm commitment to achieving the best outcomes for our clients.

While our attention is turned inwards, it is important to recognise those that are not in the field but are integral to Sustineo’s functioning. Sustineo would like to give a special thanks and acknowledgement to Minkyung Sul, our Business and Quality Manager (and all-round office wiz!). Min has contributed immensely to the development of the processes that enable organisational success in the work we do.
