Join the team! We're hiring a Consultant

Are you a consultant, researcher or evaluator with experience in designing, shaping and implementing important social research across Australia and/or the Asia-Pacific region?

Are you seeking opportunities to use your skills and experience to create positive social, economic, and environmental change?

The organisation

Sustineo is an innovative and dynamic consulting firm with a proud history of helping diverse organisations in Australia and across the Asia-Pacific region to understand and solve difficult problems and contributing to sustainable, positive change. We work at the intersection of research, evaluation, and impact, and seek to combine the rigour of academic research with the targeted advice, practical recommendations, and value for money of the commercial sector. Our small core team is supported by a network of associates who are specialists in their field.

Our core capabilities include applied social research, monitoring and evaluation, impact assessment, performance assurance, strategy, and governance. We work across a range of sectors including climate change and sustainability, law and justice, economic development, and rural, agricultural and community development.

The opportunity

In the context of Sustineo’s expanding portfolio of work, this is an opportunity to join a dedicated and collegiate team working on interesting and important social, economic, and environmental projects. The successful applicant will contribute to a broad range of research and consulting projects across diverse subject areas in Australia and overseas. This role will be predominantly focused on supporting Sustineo’s domestic work with a range of Australian Government agencies and non-government organisations.

The person

We are looking for a mid-level consultant to join our team. You will be highly self-motivated, adaptable, professional, and committed to creating positive, sustainable change. You will be open to new and challenging opportunities in a fast-paced but supportive environment. We will work with you to develop your career interests in line with our work and business opportunities.

The role

The role will involve responsibilities across the organisation. These will include:

  • Projects – research and evaluation design, stakeholder consultation and engagement, field data collection (primarily in Australia, with some potential international travel in the Asia-Pacific region), quantitative and/or qualitative data analysis, and reporting.
  • Business Development – supporting bids by contributing to proposed project design and methodology development, helping with prospect tracking, and participating in client meetings and internal workshops.
  • Team Management – communicating with Sustineo’s core and associate teams and managing a range of professional relationships.
  • Communications – assisting with social media, production of blogs, and writing research briefs.
  • TBD – as shaped by you and by your strengths to help support, develop and grow the organisation.

The position could be part- or full-time, as negotiated with the successful applicant. The role will likely involve travel in Australia (and possibly in the Asia-Pacific region). The salary range will be up to $85,000 (superannuation included), depending on experience.

Attributes

The varied strengths of Sustineo’s team members combine to ensure we deliver a product that is more than the sum of our individual parts. The successful applicant will bring their own unique qualities to our work. The following are some of the basic (not exhaustive) attributes and skills we value:

  • Demonstrated experience in applied research and/or evaluation, with a strong understanding of design, methodology, conduct, and analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience in successfully completing high-quality consulting and research projects in Australia or overseas.
  • Demonstrated skills in qualitative, quantitative, and/or integrative research methods.
  • Experience in quantitative data management.
  • Subject matter knowledge within – or complementary to – Sustineo’s key work areas.
  • Strong capability in systems thinking and multidisciplinary approaches.

  • Experience with cross-cultural engagement (either in Australia or overseas).
  • Ability to work adaptively and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
