Almah is a gender specialist and has extensive experience in community engagement, particularly in relation to culturally appropriate approaches to research and community/stakeholder engagement in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Almah has a legal background and has experience working with communities focusing on the areas of land, natural resources, and benefit-sharing arrangements.
Almah has worked as a field researcher in a number of elections-related and gender projects in PNG. Prior to taking on doctoral studies, Almah worked as a national researcher and lead investigator with the World Bank and the Institute of National Affairs. She was a team leader for the Domestic Observation of General Elections in PNG for the 2012 elections.
Almah's PhD thesis examines the opportunities and potential for women’s leadership at the local-level government, ward and village level in PNG.
